Fast regional access. Extensive national reach.
Colorado City’s Permian Basin location offers interstate and highway connections allowing rapid reach across the region and to major Southeastern markets. Air service is also convenient, with revived rail service currently under exploration.
Highway: Colorado City offers immediate access to I-20 through two connecting exits, putting Midland and Odessa within 1.5 hours to the west and Abilene just 1 hour east; the route also offers a direct connection to major metro markets including Dallas and Atlanta, while providing interchanges to a dozen other interstates across the U.S. Highway options also include Texas Highway 208 which extends south to San Angelo and north through Snyder. Operations can also easily connect to Lubbock via I-20 and U.S. Highway 87, and can reach the state’s southern border on Texas Highway 163.
Air: General aviation is served locally by two runways at the Colorado City Municipal Airport, while two regional airports and one international airport are located within 100 miles. The San Angelo Regional Airport supports general aviation with three runways and two fixed-base operators. The Abilene Regional Airport offers 7 daily direct flights to Dallas, American Airlines largest hub. The Midland International Air and Space Port is served by four carriers, including American, Southwest and United.
Rail possibilities: Rail brought the first commercial development to Mitchell County, establishing Colorado City as a major hub for cattle shipping. Today, tracks for Union Pacific still extend the length of Mitchell County, opening the possibility of revived Class I service.
